Paper Money History: Millan Stefanik on Slovakia Currency

As you know I have greatly increased my collection of World banknotes, very cheaply I may add by buying in bulk from EBay. This has greatly awakened my interest in finding out about the faces on banknotes and I shall be sharing a few of my finds with you in the following weeks.

Millan Rastislav Stefanik (1880-1919)

My first port of call will be Millan Rastislav Stefanik born 1880 in a small
village of Kosariska in Slovakia, which was then part of the Austrian-Hungary Empire. This was a man who had a short 39 years to live, but by all records lived life to the full. Millan was first an astonomer, an art-connoisseur, soldier, army general, a pilot, diplomat and most importantly the founder of Czechosolvakia.

His portrait is to be found on the 5000 Slovakia Koruna

He achieved so much in such a short time and is a great Slovakia hero respected by both Slovakas and Czechs alike.
You can visit 5000 Slovakia Koruna - Millan Stefanik to find out more about the man on Slovakia 5000 Koruna. These notes will no longer be in circulation after 2010 as Slovakia is now part of the European Union and has started circulating the Euro banknotes since last year. After 2010 the currency of Slovakia will no longer be Koruna but Euros as it is with other member states of the European Union.

Paper Money Collecting: Storing My Growing Collection

I have been searching for a source for a good paper money storage at wholesale as my collection of notes is now upto about 500 items, and I know its going to grow even larger by the end of the year. The use of fancy expensive but superb albums is scarry. I'ld rather spend the money on getting more notes to add to my collection. So what can I do?

After searching the net for many days I decide on Storage boxes and Safeguard Currency sleeves. It is quite possible that there might be a better option, which I'm unaware of. If so please leave a message in the comment section. Your imput would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, for anyone wondering why I'm not jumping off to buy the first photo or even currency album on offer, please check my previous posts about How to Store Your Paper Money Collection Safely , as this will help to prevent regret and loss of great notes and good revenue eventually.

Paper Money Triva: Who Just Issued New 500 Million Dollar Banknotes?

I just issued a new $500,000,000 banknotes this week, who am I?
And I issued one worth $250,000,000 just 10 days previously, this note at least could get you a loaf of bread and leave you with some change, still wondering who I am?

This is so sad. Of course its Zimbabwe and Mugabe at the end of this farce. These notes can't buy you more than a loaf or two of bread, at most three! Yet he's getting ready for a second round at the polls after being responsible for driving the country into an unprecedented rate of inflation and despair since 2000.

Also 5, 25 and 50 billion Zimbabwean Dollars are to be issued to aid the farmers during the harvest season, they would usually be carrying baggages of money around in order to make purchases, these notes are actually bank cheques rather than banknotes like we know them.

These Zimbabwean Dollars are not worth more than US$2, what to do? Right now I feel that the UN needs to get in there and deal with this clown of a leader before he ends up killing more innocent people that even Saddam Hussein did, at the end of the day history will repeat itself if nothing is done.

Surprise, surprise, collecting banknotes can lead you to being much more than a political animal than you intended to be to start with.

New Banknote Collectors Reference Book.

I guess I don't really qualify as a new banknote collector anymore, yet it is important to make sure that if you want to take this hobby seriously and collect lots of banknotes, acquired knowledge over time will only come from some serious referencing.

I have found during the last couple of months that the best way to gain knowledge about banknotes, their value and different issues is to own a Standard Catalouge of World Paper Money. The Vol 3 would be your best first buy as it deals with 20th century notes to the present day, depending on which edition you can lay your hands on.

These are really like the paper money collectors bible, you should not leave home without it.

Checkout these books for banknote collectors on offers from Amazon:

Notable Paper Money Collecting Organisations For Collectors

One question I always had on my mind as a new collector was : Are there any paper money groups or organizations I could join where I could get access to information about paper money and meet up with like minded folks?

In search of an answer I stumbled on information about paper money collecting events which I have since been posting every weekend. Since then I have joined one main organization, though I have come to realize that there are several societies all over the world that collectors may want to join.

Here are a few of them:

International Bank Note Society (IBNS)
This is an organization for both new and advanced collectors, which helps to keep you
well abreast of new developments in the paper money collecting scene, it produces a
journal which would be very useful for the scholarly collector.
For information on how to join the Society contact:
Clive Rice, 25 Copse Side, Binscombe, Godalming, Surrey,GU7 3RU, United Kingdom

Latin American Paper Money Society (LANSA)

Arthur Matz, 3304 Milford Mill Road, Baltimore, MD 21244 USA.
Email address: Matzlansa@aol.com

American Numismatic Association (ANA)
Join online. There are over 500 ANA Clubs in USA and other parts of the World.

Canadian Paper Money Society
(CPMS)
If your speciality is Canadian Banknotes then this is the one to join
Dick Dunn, Secretary-Treasurer
P.O. Box 562, Pickering, ON, Canada, L1V 2R7
Phone: 905-509-1146
E-mail: cpms@idirect.com

There are other smaller paper money Collecting groups and organizations not mentioned here obviously if you
require help to locate a club or society near you let me know.
