New Irish Banknotes Issued - Old Bushmills Distillery Honoured.

The Old Bushmill Distillery in Co. Antrim

Apart from the Euro banknotes circulating in the Republic of Ireland, did you know that Ireland was granted the rights to issue its own banknotes and Northern Ireland has taken full advantage of this, they have Bank of England Notes and paper money issued by the Bank of Ireland in denominations of £5,10, 20 and 50. These pound notes have the same value as the Bank of England notes.

Now to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Old Bushmills Distilery in county Antrim the new 2008 Irish notes will have an image of the distilery on its reverse. It is believed that yonks before King James granted the Distillery a License in 1608, King Henery's army had been enjoying the whiskey from this legendary distillery.

US Paper Money Novelty Note - Obama on US Banknote

Just a fun banknote item with Barack Obama on the face of US Money. If he makes it this will definitely be a first, helps us see reality of what Americans are doing and how different it is from the norm. Though I must say that a lot of fuss has been made about Obama being black, but is he really truly just black?

To start with what am I? I am a black woman with dual nationality, born or African parents in Europe over 40 years ago. Luckily for me I've lived in both continents and do not have a nationality crisis. I therefore feel that I can at least use this opportunity to voice my opinion about this great shift in American politics.

Its great that America can consider a woman or a black man for the number one job in America. Yet there are fundamental problems with this progression. My reservation stems from the fact that a person of dual race heritage in US is always considered black, when it is a white and black issue by both sides of the coin?

My take on this issue is be careful all of you open your eyes wide before you vote!!Anyway the novelty note looks great find up more...

Paper Money Triva: Who Just Issued New 500 Million Dollar Banknotes?

I just issued a new $500,000,000 banknotes this week, who am I?
And I issued one worth $250,000,000 just 10 days previously, this note at least could get you a loaf of bread and leave you with some change, still wondering who I am?

This is so sad. Of course its Zimbabwe and Mugabe at the end of this farce. These notes can't buy you more than a loaf or two of bread, at most three! Yet he's getting ready for a second round at the polls after being responsible for driving the country into an unprecedented rate of inflation and despair since 2000.

Also 5, 25 and 50 billion Zimbabwean Dollars are to be issued to aid the farmers during the harvest season, they would usually be carrying baggages of money around in order to make purchases, these notes are actually bank cheques rather than banknotes like we know them.

These Zimbabwean Dollars are not worth more than US$2, what to do? Right now I feel that the UN needs to get in there and deal with this clown of a leader before he ends up killing more innocent people that even Saddam Hussein did, at the end of the day history will repeat itself if nothing is done.

Surprise, surprise, collecting banknotes can lead you to being much more than a political animal than you intended to be to start with.

Old Banknotes in Old Dusty Books?

Do you have any old notes in between an old book or Bible? If so you might be in luck. Banknotes printed locally in old towns and cites all over England seem to be rising in value incredibly!

Take for example, the 200 year old banknote from Whitehaven, which sold for £1,800, in London on Monday.

The exact date of production is unknown as it was never circulated, the bank itself only lasted 20 years.

The incredible thing is that this notes face value is a mere £1.05 and it was only expected to sell for £500 - £700, but to see it go for more than double!

So if you do have an old note in between those old books in the attic, get them out treat it with care and get it over to a professional who can check it out and value it for you. You never know.

For pictures and more background information about the area go to Whitehaven

Paper Money Collecting: Old Australian Banknotes - Trivia

toolbar

Post 1929 - After the Depression, inflation and deflation led to currencies being devalued. Australia changed its currency from Pound Sterling to Australian Pound.

In 1953 following the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II new banknotes were issued with portraits depicting important Australian figures including Her Majesty on £20 note, , and on £50 note which was never circulated!

In 1965 Prime Minister Robert Menzies coined the Australian banknotes "the Royals" and trial runs were printed, this name proved so unpopular though that they were shelved and the name "dollar" was adopted in its place.

1966 saw the introduction of the Australian Dollar banknotes which had exact equivalents in the old pound notes: 1 dollar = 10 shillings, 2 dollars = 1 pound.

Then in 1988 Australia issued its first polymer note. Enjoy!

Paper Money Collecting- How Many Countries Use The Pound As Their Currency?

The Pound Sterling is the name used for the British currency, we all know that it is the same in Scotland and Ireland.

But did you also know that 17 other countries also use the Pound as the name of their currency? Following from the discovery about the Dollar yesterday I thought I'd better do a check on the pound as well. My summation is that this trend is rooted in the historical relationships between USA and the countries that hose to adapt the dollar as the name of its currency. The same applies to the countries that use the pound, some just use shillings, but we'll get into that later.

Here are the names of the countries:

Biafra (break-away nation from Nigeria now defunct), Cyprus, Egypt, England, Falkland Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Rhodesia, South Africa, St. Helena, Syria, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey.
