5 Nigerian Banks: Bosses get the Sack!

What a disaster, these 5 Nigerian Banks most of which were giants in the Nigerian Financial sector now brought to their knees in just space of time.

Most people in the west would not be aware of these banks existence, but they are another result of the current global economic recession now at hand. They are namely, Oceanic Bank, Union Bank, Finbank,Intercontinental Bank and Afribank. The bosses of these banks have been sacked by the Central Bank of Nigeria and 19 Top Executives are wanted for questioning regarding "bad loans" which led ultimately to the hundreds of billion of Naira ($2.6 billion) bail-out.

It can be argued that sacking these bosses seems quite drastic if not draconian, some-one even said if I can remember rightly that the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor has been too high handed and should not have taken this action as it has now caused panic amongst the banks clients. Britain and USA were cited as examples of countries that did not sack their bank bosses.

Maybe the argument should be that the Western government should take a leaf from the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria who has had the guts to get rid of the arm of "Untouchable Bankers" who think they can hold the economy of a nation in their hands and use it as a pun on their corrupt playing field.

The hope is that their injection of cash into the banks will help to free the flow of liquid cash into the system and that the panic will die down. A lot of work still needs to be done. But it seems that Nigeria's Central Bank has started cleaning house for the countries financial sector and the Naira may finally start finding its feet in the worlds economy

Gold and Silver: Important Investments

OK, I've been going on about buying gold and silver bullions. This time I just wanted to remind us that even the gold and silver jewellery we buy are important investments.

I was reminded of this by a dear friend of mine who is going through some very trying emotional and finacial troubles right now. I've known her for years and I'm aware of her deep love for collecting any good quality gold jewellery. Well guess what, now that times are hard, she sells her gold off, bit by bit; and is therefore able to pay her important and essential bills, without having to go borrowing. Now that is a good investment.

So if you haven't started thinking about it, please do. If you have, get to the next stage, ask questions find out how you too can start buying and investing in gold and silver so that your savings will be valuable when the rainy days from this financial recession starts to unfold.

Paper Money, Gold or Silver?

The current economic climate has made it difficult to continue writing about paper money without relating it to the reality that befalls us all. Life has become very stressful for most. No job, no home and little prospects of seeing the light at the end of this dark tunnel!

So what do you really think! My advice is what ever extra money you have saved up needs to be wisely invested in non paper money investments such as gold, silver, land or property. Things will get worse before they get better and leaving your hard earned cash in a bank as paper money will not serve you well in the long run.

Have you noticed that both banks on either side of the Atlantic Ocean have taken to selling off their gold and silver reserves to keep the price of gold down? Once its all gone the prices are going to shoot up sky high, this will in turn deplete the value of paper money to never before low levels.

The history of paper money in the east is about to repeat itself in the west. Take note and heed the well meant warning. I am not an economics expert but there is a bubble that is about to burst try and help yourself and get something tangible from your hard earned savings. Buy gold or silver now!

A Few Paper Money Collecting Tit-bits

OK, this is going to be very short and sweet I hope. Still not with it so my presence here is going to be very limited.

First thing a Paper Money Collector is also known as Numismatist.
Second, a fellow collector just informed me on FaceBook that this is actually a great time to collect paper money. There are good deals out there, so check out this Store   you may find something interesting and valuable at a great price.
I maybe able to provide a list of items available for sale in the next week or so, so if you are interested please stay tuned.

The Credit Crunch and other Impediments

The Credit Crunch and Other Impediments have made it possible to keep me off-line and not writing for over a month now. My apologies, its been quite a while now. And within the month and a half so much has happened.

For the first time America has stood above racial prejudice and elected their first black President in Barak Obama. The Credit Crunch on the other hand has taken root and become a massive global recession.  The once strong British Sterling is now so weak its standing at nearly 1:1 with the Euro and just a bit over that with the US Dollar. How devastating for us all!
Well with the new President, I say well done, congratulations and now the hard work really begins, these are very hard times and what a burden he carries both for his nation and the world. So much is expected of him, I pray for God's wisdom to guide him, and for the other dark forces to keep off and let him do and achieve the best he can in the circumstances. To the rest of us I say on his behalf, don't expect superhuman results in the days, months and years to follow. Barak Obama is only a human being!

Now the Credit Crunch is another matter, I think the most poignant fact for me is seeing "Wollies" go down. That is the beloved name for the giant "Woolworths" that went into administration over the Christmas period. Many others have followed suit and so many people as a result have lost their jobs and maybe homes.

I must commend the Governments all around the world who have taken action promptly to reduce the massive negative effects of this economic disaster. For one thing the Banks have been saved from collapsing but unfortunately they still think they are financial masters and nothing can touch them. Well they should watch this space. If they don't change their ways, give back to the hands that fed them, help mend the fences that have come crumbling down in the last couple of months and stop over indulging their top directors and managers with fat cat bonuses, then whatever comes crashing down on their heads was brought on by nothing else but their greed.

I know I'm supposed to be collecting paper money, but I haven't done much in the past month. I've instead been taking care of my ill 5 year old, reaching down to my roots to understand the significance of the Obama Presidency and looking into ways to beat the credit crunch.

I know I'm straying but it is the sign of our times as the Credit Crunch and other impediments take up our limited time and resources.

Paper Money Collecting is Back

Thank you so much for coming back to visit over and over again, even though this blog has been quite quiet during the last month. The terror of silence, no phone line no broadband hit me really bad during the last month but finally despite the credit crunch, bank failings that have befallen our economies in this global mess, a ray of light appears and normalcy is restored once again.

So we now have a new President elected to office in the United States. We do pray that his efforts will yet again bring peace, hope, love and prosperity to the rest of the world and his homeland as well. Without this paper money may suffer greatly in the months to come.

We shall wait and see how all the new changes will pan out.

I will be back on a more frequent basis.

Once again thanks for visiting.

No Paper Money Collecting Posts

Hi all, this is an unusual post, my appologies for not posting last week and even this is a very short one. Due to moving house and no internet connection, its been practically impossible for me to get on-line. Do bare with me and I should get back to nomality in another week.

In the meantime, don't let the credit crunch or the losses on the Stock Market
phase you, its not easy but we will all get through it somehow. And we hope that Paper Money will retain some of its value in the process.

Are You Still Collecting Paper Money?

It's been a long break from collecting paper money and blogging about it, and I'm glad to be back once more. After the month away I'm looking to bring some fresh eyes into how this blog is structured and presented. Thank you everyone for coming back and reading the blog while I was down and out (figuratively speaking that is). I hope that the information I've gathered over the past year has been useful to you and I'm looking forward to revealing more of what I'm learning as the months go by.

So how are we all doing with the Credit Crunch and the all important American Race for the White House? Luckily this is not a political journal or else I would have been boring you with my views about this particular election, being that I am both black and a woman. You never know, my views might make pretty interesting reading for some!

Anyway back to our favorite topic, how is your collection going? Mine hasn't progressed in the last month but I'm hoping to move it on as the days go by.

I found this site, apparently its been around for a while, its got a new look and I think if you are looking for some coins or currency for your collection or gifts for a friend or child, you may find something interesting here and most of the items are under a dollar. Check-out this Coin and Paper Money Auction Site and you'll see what I mean.

Paper Money Collecting Serious or Just a Fun Blog?

Since I was unable to make my usual post on Friday about Paper Money Collecting and Banknote Events around the world I've been asking myself the question, "Is this a serious or Fun Blog?"

Of course I want it to be a Fun Blog, but it is also serious in nature, as my readers have come to expect to find out what's happening around them in the numismatic field, every weekend as well as other important banknote information on the paper money scene . I failed to bring you this information and I do apologize profusely for my failure.

Without wanting to bore you with the personal challenges I am encountering right now, I do need to let you know that I am struggling to get a full hour to spend on Paper Money Collecting now compared to 3-4 hours a couple of months ago. Even this post is being squeezed in between several duties, jobs and chores that I need to get done today.

Please bear with me and I shall be back to speed in the next week or two: More success to you my Paper Money Collecting and Banknote readers as you continue to widen the horiz0n and learn about this great hobby.

Paper Money and Coin Collecting Radio Show.

The shows broadcast on the station include interviews on coin and paper money collecting, talking to experts and people involved in auctions, shows and fairs. This seems to be another fun way of keeping abreast what is going on in the paper money collecting field.

Paper Money Collecting: Storing My Growing Collection

I have been searching for a source for a good paper money storage at wholesale as my collection of notes is now upto about 500 items, and I know its going to grow even larger by the end of the year. The use of fancy expensive but superb albums is scarry. I'ld rather spend the money on getting more notes to add to my collection. So what can I do?

After searching the net for many days I decide on Storage boxes and Safeguard Currency sleeves. It is quite possible that there might be a better option, which I'm unaware of. If so please leave a message in the comment section. Your imput would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, for anyone wondering why I'm not jumping off to buy the first photo or even currency album on offer, please check my previous posts about How to Store Your Paper Money Collection Safely , as this will help to prevent regret and loss of great notes and good revenue eventually.

Old Banknotes in Old Dusty Books?

Do you have any old notes in between an old book or Bible? If so you might be in luck. Banknotes printed locally in old towns and cites all over England seem to be rising in value incredibly!

Take for example, the 200 year old banknote from Whitehaven, which sold for £1,800, in London on Monday.

The exact date of production is unknown as it was never circulated, the bank itself only lasted 20 years.

The incredible thing is that this notes face value is a mere £1.05 and it was only expected to sell for £500 - £700, but to see it go for more than double!

So if you do have an old note in between those old books in the attic, get them out treat it with care and get it over to a professional who can check it out and value it for you. You never know.

For pictures and more background information about the area go to Whitehaven

The 3 Sisters on 200 Peso Dominican Banknotes

At the end of 2007 the Dominican Republic issued a 200 Pesos Oro Note. It has the portraits of three sisters, the Mirabal Sisters, Patricia, Minerva and Maria Teresa, were brutally murdered by a tyrannical leader in 1960.
I did a little search and felt really sad and ashamed that as human beings we could be so unfair and wicked to others.
Sadly this whole incident reminded me of the Iraqi situation. When will we ever learn? America tends or tended to support these corrupt tyrants because they were opposed to communism as if this alone made for a great leader.
Apparently the leader in the Republic at the time, Rafael Trujillo, had been trained by the US Marines and enjoyed US support until his death as a leading Latin American anti- communist! The fact that he ruled the country with iron fists , acquired so much wealth for himself while his people suffered and worst of all disappeared and were killed by his secret service didn't appear to count for much!
The sisters were members of an underground movement and had with their husbands been in and out of prison for various offenses to do with resisting the government. At the end of 1960 their husbands were all in prison and the sisters had gone to visit their husbands together. On their way back they were brutally murdered put back in their vehicle and it was rolled down a cliff to make it look like an accident.
These were women who stood up for what was right and just and did not let fear or talk of being the weaker gender stop them. They were mothers and their children were left orphaned so that some day the rest of humanity and their county at large would make the changes to enable the people of the Dominican Republic life a life free of tyranny.

The New 2007 Dominican Republic 200 Peso Oro

The sisters, Patricia, Minerva and Maria Teresa were an important symbol of resistance during this era and their deaths served as a catalyst for the revolt and subsequent downfall of the despotic regime that did so much harm to its people.

World Paper Money : A Coat of Many Colors

(Swiss Francs)

Colour Lovers scoured through the 191 currently circulating currencies of the 192 member states of the United Nations to find some of the most colorful, unique and dramatic bank notes... and my verdict is Paper Money is really a coat of many colors. Banknotes are usually the heart of a nation on show to the world at large. The colors of some of these notes are so vibrant, yet others are so earthy. The coat of many colors are world paper money exhibit shows us how different yet beautiful our nations are. Enjoy!
