King Rama IX of Thailand : Banknotes Celebrate His 80th Birthday

King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand popularly known as Rama IX, cerebrated his 80th birthday on December 5th 2007. To commemorate this landmark 3 uncut banknotes of 1,5,and 10 Baht denominations were released on November 28, 2007.

The king is the longest serving monarchy in existence today, he has been on the throne longer than Queen Elizabeth II as he ascended the throne in 1946.

There are a few things about this King that makes him stand out. He was born in America, studied in Switzerland and has a deep love for his people, and they for him. From comments I've read all over the net I kind of get the idea that I'm watching "Going to America", the people of Kumanda I think it was called really loved their "Prince"

The King has four children, one son and three girls. One of his a daughters is a Professor in one of the Universities and another one relinquished her title as Princess in order to marry an American citizen. Her only son Khun Pomo was lost during the Tsunami disaster and so the King Rama IX shared a loss with his people in a very personal and sad way as one of his grandsons was a victim of this unforgettable disaster.
